Edvard Grieg Kor / Barokkanerne / Paul Agnew
When J.S. Bach was twenty-one in 1707, he applied for a job as a cantor at Blasiuskirchen in Mühlhausen. He quickly wrote two of the cantatas presented at this concert: Christ lag in Todesbanden (BWV 4), a dramatic interpretation of Luther’s great hymn describing Jesus’ death and resurrection, and Gottes Zeit ist die allebeste Zeit (BWV 106), a work for burial, also known as “Actus Tragicus”. In addition, Herr Jesu Christ wahr´ Mensch und Gott (BWV 127), composed in Leipzig for a Sunday celebration in 1725, is presented here. Here Bach cites his own St. Matthew Passion.
Edvard Grieg Kor join forces with the Oslo ensemble Barokkanerne. The concert is led by Paul Agnew an internationally recognised conductor, and an outstanding interpreter of Baroque and pre-classical repertoire.
