Reformasjonsjubileet – Bach – Kantate 80

On the occation of the Reformation jubilee in Bergen 3-7 March, Bergen Cathedral Choir, a baroque orchestra and soloists from Edvard Grieg Kor will perform Bachs cantata Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott, during the Sunday service in Bergen Cathedral.
The cantata was composed by Bach for Reformation day in the Lutheran Church. Reformation day is commerated each year on 31 October. On this day in 1517, Martin Luther sent his Theses enclosed with a letter to Albert of Brandenburg, the Archbishop of Mainz. The cantata is one of Bach’s most famous, and is one of two cantatas which he composed for Reformation day.
Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott is scored for three trumps, timpani, two oboes, two violins, viola, cello, double bass, organ continuo, four voice soloists and four-part choir.
