“Slaget på Vågen” is a cantata, a dramatic musical work by the composer Håkon Berge and author Cecilie Løveid. The work is commissioned by Sjøforsvarets Musikkorps and is based on a battle that took place between English and Dutch fleets at the harbour of Bergen in 1665. The Danish and Norwegian forces in Bergen joined the battle on the Dutch side, and it is the only time that Bergenhus fortress has been in battle.
This is a modern, dramatic tale about the dilemmas one faces in critical and dramatic situations related to the defense of national sovereignty: crucial choices that can lead to loss of life, misery and unrest.
