Since its inception as Norway’s first professional vocal ensemble in 2012, the Edvard Grieg Kor has performed widely to great acclaim, not just in its own right, but also as a core participant in the Bergen National Opera and Bergen Philharmonic choruses.
They are joined by a veritable cooperative of the finest Norwegian choral voices, conducted by Michael McCarthy, Director of Music at Washington Cathedral. Mr McCarthy has also directed his own boys’ choir in music for films such as The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, among others.
The theme of tonight’s concert refers to the Norwegian American Line of ships which linked Europe and America throughout most of the 20th century. Works from both continents demonstrate the mutual influences each exerts on the other.
